Researchers have looked at perceptions of Gentlemen with and without a Dad Bod. A study employing male figures with waist-to-chest ratios ranging from other .60 to .ninety—a WCR of .eighty or a WCR of .90 would correspond to your Father Bod (Wade and colleagues, 2019a, 2019b)—observed that male figures with low WCRs received higher ratings for attractiveness while the figures with WCRs that correspond into a Dad Bod bought lower attractiveness ratings, but received higher ratings on evolutionary Health and fitness traits such as affectionate, nurturant, friendly, good mother or father potential, and older.

That’s not to state that man isn’t great, but he’s just not the first person who comes to mind when most of us are measuring our real-life romantic ideals.
But it is something that my friends have talked about, and like any other girl, I do have insecurities. I don’t want a man to tell me what I can or can’t consume.
The stories show that body-shaming hurts. And nevertheless body-shaming is normalised, part of everyday experience, and will be even harder for men to call out than women. We know that these comments hurt, but we can easily find it hard to explain why. The #EverydayLookism campaign might help someone understand and explain why body-shaming is discriminatory and harmful.
I’m from what it would be fair to call the dad bod Belt: the suburban South, where polo shirts and golf are considered a good look from birth. (It is absolutely not a coincidence that father bod’s original proponent goes to Clemson.) Perhaps it’s part on the location’s food culture, but relatively handful of people there expect or want their partners of either gender being chiseled out of granite.
